While my son Daniel was away serving his mission in Brazil, the rest of the crew—Julie, the girls, and our dog Izzy—loaded up for a scenic autumn flight to check out the peak fall colors along the Wasatch Front and Back.
All loaded up and ready for a crisp fall flight over the mountains.

Taking off from South Valley (U42), we headed southeast toward Utah Valley and up into Provo Canyon. The scrub oaks and maples along the canyon walls were in full vibrant red and orange display.

From Sundance, we crossed over into the Heber Valley, cruising over Midway and the iconic Homestead Crater before heading north toward Park City.

After taking in the ski towns dressed in gold, we turned west down Parley’s Canyon, tracking the terrain back into the Salt Lake Valley. We flew a quick circle over the University of Utah campus to wrap up the sightseeing loop before setting up for a smooth entry back into South Valley.
It was pure, low-and-slow local flying—the absolute best way to experience Utah’s fall season.
